5 Great Ways to Show Someone You Love Them - (That Don't Cost a Thing)

Sometimes in life we take for granted those who mean the most to us.  Check in periodicaly to be sure that your loved ones actually feel loved by you.  Here are some simple ways to do just that. These ways to show love are appropriate for a child, a friend, a family member or a significant other.

1. Physical Touch. Cuddling and showing physical affection is important from birth through the rest of our lives. Giving a hug, a back rub, a foot massage or even brushing your loved one's hair are all great ways to show you care. Not to mention that it's unlikely you'll resort to using your smart phone or laptop since your hands will be occupied, so you're loved one will have your full attention, making them feel special and appreciated.

2. Love Notes.  In an age of emails, tweets, texts and Facebook messages, taking the time to create a pen-on-paper note expressing your feelings has a power that other modes of communication lack. You can take the time to decorate a homemade card that can be a keep-forever keepsake and memory of your relationship at a certain moment in time.

3. A Picture's Worth a Thousand Words.  Digital photography has made taking photos faster, easier and less expensive than ever before.  Candid shots of belly laughter can rival the work of even the most talented professionals. Taking the time to snap a selfie with your loved one shows that they are important to you and that you are proud to be seen and associated with them. Proudly display your photos online to friends and family, or make a private online album. If you can print them at home your memorable photos can then be framed or used in scrapbooks and photo albums for mere pennies.

4. Make Something Together. Getting creative is a way to let your guard down and bond in a non-competitive environment. Break out the glitter, glue and finger paints and let your creative urges take over. The creations you make together will serve as mementos that remind you both of your special bond. For older children or adults, creating and painting ceramics is a more sophisticated option that results in a more presentable keepsake. Kits are available at craft supply stores.

5. Bond in Nature. Getting away form it all allows you to tune into your emotions - and the emotions of the people you're with. There's no better way to show someone you care than to give them your full, undivided attention. So leave the electronics at home and hit the trails or grab your tent and spend a weekend camping by a lake. Nature helps you not only get in touch with yourself, but with those in your life who are most important to you.
